That decoration wasn’t there yesterday

Hello Reader,

Have you noticed how many Halloween decorations are out now?

You might enjoy looking at them on your walk. Your puppy or dog might stop and wonder what happened to the neighbor’s yard.

Something that was not there yesterday is suddenly moving, making noise, or towering over the sidewalk.

This might be your puppy’s first Halloween. Your teenage dog might be unsure about something you expected them to walk right past. Or you recently brought a dog home and are still figuring out what they are comfortable with.

If they hesitate, give them a little room to look.

You can cross the street or take a wider path. They do not need to get close to the decoration.

Notice whether that extra space helps them feel comfortable enough to keep walking with you.

And if walks were already a struggle before the Halloween decorations appeared, that is something I can help you work on.

I offer training online, along with private training and Pup Walk Academy here in Davis.

If you would like some help making walks easier, reply WALK. I’ll send you a little more about how we can work together and what it costs.

Talk soon,
Kristine

P.S. I offer online training too, so we can work together even if you are outside

Your teenage dog might wiggle away before you get it fastened. And if you recently brought a dog home, you may have no idea how they will feel about wearing anything. Before you try again, pause and watch what they do. Are they moving around comfortably? Or are they trying to rub it off, backing away, or...

Hello Reader, Have you ever caught yourself doing something differently just to make life with your puppy or dog a little easier? Maybe you avoid a certain route. Maybe you time things so fewer people are around. Maybe you skip something because you just do not feel like dealing with the hassle that day. At first, it can feel like no big deal. But when you start changing more and more of your day around the same thing, that is usually when it is worth taking a closer look. Sometimes a...

Hello Reader, I was thinking about how easy it is to slowly change little things around your puppy or dog without really noticing it. Maybe you start taking a different route on walks. Maybe you wait until fewer people are outside. Maybe you put your puppy behind a gate when someone comes over because it just feels easier. Maybe there is somewhere you used to take your dog that you have quietly stopped going. None of that means you are doing anything wrong. Sometimes those workarounds are...
